Being an entrepreneur is exciting. Going from thinking of becoming a real estate agent to actually passing the exam and becoming licensed, is even more exciting! If not scary. Here are some basic tips that anyone thinking about becoming an agent, or who has already become licensed should consider.
- Have 3-6 months savings or a second source of income (ideally passive or another spouse)
- On average the cost of starting a real estate career is $2500 (fairly low cost to start a business – but have this money plus your savings ready to go.
- Realistically expect your first commission pay out 90-180 days after you are licensed – unless you have clients ready to go, but even then the sale of a home for a buy or seller can take at least 30 days.
- Start building your database now!
- Tell people closest to you you’re getting licensed- you never know who could be your first client to shorten that gap of first commission in 90 days to 60 days!
- Decide if you want to join a team or be an individual agent
- Be prepared to invest in your self – trainings, conferences, coaches. These cost money and are worth it. You need to be in the right mindset and have accountability.
- Have 1-5 years of goals written out. Why do you want to be in real estate, what will it help you achieve, how much do you want to sell, how many people do you want to help, how much take home income do you need to earn to make a living and live a life well funded. Take time to really consider this and write it down somewhere you can see it daily. Sit down with your family and write these out together!
- Be prepared to be a PEOPLE PERSON – whether your an introvert, extrovert, high C, enegram 1 or a 6, be prepared to learn to love working with all types of people, and also be prepared to know how you need to recharge!
